It is very hard to keep up with the latest in social media. But worry no more, below you will find three social media trends you probably didn’t know about.

  1. SEO in social media

The smartest brands are combining their SEO and social media efforts to achieve maximum exposure. But why are they doing this?

Google and Twitter: Not that long ago Google changed its algorithms factoring social signals on Twitter as an indicator in search rankings.

What does this mean? Well, Google actually takes into account factors, such as retweets, how many people tweeted about your content, and even the time the content was shared. Now you know that it pays to get involved in currently popular conversations with your followers on Twitter.

How to reach a high ranking in Google’s SERPs (Search Engine Results Page):

IMPORTANT: Google will rank your blog and website higher depending on the number of people linking back to your page and your influence in social media.

  1. Connect sales with social media

Of course that’s your goal when you are working on your social media, ‘conversion’, but where do you begin to connect sales with social?

“Internet Retailer’s 2015 Social Media 500, a study of 500 leading merchants’ use of social media, reveals that retailers’ increased efforts to build social media audiences (follower numbers were up on average of 33% on Facebook from 2013 to 2014) are paying off when it comes to sales.” – Simply Measure

Social media platforms, such as, Twitter, Pinterest and Facebook, are developing ‘Buy’ buttons and promotions to help YOU track sales directly to the platform.

ROI for social media! This is something all marketers have been waiting for, meaning more budget for social media marketing efforts.

  1. One-stop-shop

Facebook, Google and Twitter are increasing their efforts to be your one-stop-shop for mobile, high-tech and most importantly, social, by expanding their offerings and acquiring smaller start-ups.

“Facebook owns the four most downloaded apps and mobile apps of 2014: Facebook Messenger, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram.

Google Inc. is now Alphabet Inc., and owns an incredible amount of properties including Calico, the longevity research division, Fiber, the high-speed broadband service, Sidewalk Labs, the new company for cracking urban problems, GoogleX, Google Capital, Google Ventures, and YouTube.

Twitter purchased Periscope to get in on the streaming business and is also home to Vine.” – Simply Measure
