Australian Architectural Hardwoods specialises in north coast New South Wales hardwoods, which are exceptionally beautiful and arguably the best hardwoods in the world.

We search Australia, salvaging timber from demolitions of large buildings such as old wool stores, army barracks, wharves and bridges. These sites provide a range of hardwood species and sizes that are fully seasoned and will not behave like green timber. The timber has been allowed to season gradually over a long period of time – sometimes more than a century – and, as a result, it is more stable than most kiln dried timber.

AAH solely uses 100% recycled timber, that is we do not sell any new timber. All our timber has had a previous use and we can supply chain of custody documents.

Ecological Management

Not only does our company sell 100% recycled products but we have integrated a number of environmentally sustainable solutions to our worksite, including:

• Solar powered kiln
• Recycling extracted metal
• Composting sawdust on site
• Water supplied by dams located on premises
• Biocycle tertiary sewage system
• Environmental management plan for reprocessing any treated timber

In order to offset any emissions from the manufacturing process AAH has an ongoing landscape commitment where over 1000 native rainforest trees have already been planted throughout our 50 acres of bushland property. This has also increased the aesthetic value of our worksite and established habitats for the native animals and birds.

Recent timber acquisition – Brisbane’s Historic Hornibrook bridge timber

AAH is proud to be the ONLY supplier of the timber from this historical three kilometre bridge. The timber retrieved is grey ironbark and tallowwood which was originally felled from the Esk valley area north of Brisbane. The bridge was built to boost employment in the great depression and upon completion in 1935 provided a well needed connection to the Redcliffe peninsula. Until its demolition in 2011 the Hornibrook bridge was the longest timber viaduct bridge in the southern hemisphere and the longest timber footbridge in the world, consisting of 5,500 cubic metres of hardwood timber.

The quality of the timber has exceeded our expectations and is proving to be increasingly popular with customers new to using recycled timber and our existing clients. This timber is being manufactured into new products and is now being installed in projects Australia wide. Our clients have been thrilled with the results and fascinated with the history of the old bridge.
