The Laminex Group, Australia’s leading manufacturer of decorative surfaces including laminex and Formica, recently commissioned EELCO to supply a cost effective energy efficient high bay lighting system for their new factory and warehouse facility in Gympie Queensland. The brief from the company’s Technical officer, Justin Black was simple, laminex needed a quality, low maintenance high bay lighting system that would deliver substantial electricity running cost savings and reduce the company’s Co2 emissions compared to the standard metal Halide high bays originally specified.
The Australian made EELCO 1848A_5LT5 high output fittings and 1848WP_IP65 weatherproof high bays selected require just over 50% of the power used by traditional high bays and will save Laminex over $20,000 on running costs and over 350tonnes of CO2 emissions annually. Based on the same energy efficient T16 fluorescent technology in widespread use in high bay lighting throughout the USA and Europe for the last 15years, the EELCO system also meets Australian Standards AS1680 for minimum acceptable LUX illumination levels.
Geoff Lobegeier from PHE Pty Ltd, the Gympie based electrical contractors responsible for the electrical fitout of the new facility commented “our customer was extremely happy with the outcome especially the cost saving performance of the fittings”
With viable lamp life at least four to five times longer than the metal halide and Mercury vapour based lamps used in standard high bays, lamp changes are greatly reduced leading to significant maintenance cost savings also .
EELCO MD Mat Fear says, “this type of T16 lighting technology remains to this day, the number one choice for new and retrofit high bay lighting projects throughout the United States. With the explicably high attrition rates due to overheating and component failure of other “emerging” High Bay Lighting technologies such as LED, LEP and Induction fittings, EELCO fittings represent the smart choice for Australian businesses looking to reduce their electricity spend and improve their efficiency well into the future.”
One of the main advantages EELCO light fittings have over imported high bays, apart from substantial acquisition cost savings, is that all components such as lamps and ballasts are readily available, inexpensive and simple to replace if required.
