The InsulLiving® system developed by leading Australian building products business, Bondor utilises InsulWall® and SolarSpan® insulated products to ensure a system that is quicker, leaner, smarter and greener.
The InsulLiving® home is rated as eight star, giving potential energy savings of up to 50 per cent of energy bills and greenhouse gas emission reductions of up to six tonne per annum.
The design uses the superior spanning capabilities of insulated panels to create large dramatic living spaces with plenty of natural lighting without losing any insulating capability. Added to this, the light-weight panels lock together easily, reducing building time by an estimated 34 per cent when compared to traditional “brick and stick” construction.
The building time is so rapid that “lock-up” is estimated to be achieved within 10 days from the slab being ready for the average home.
Bondor General Manager Geoff Marsdon said the InsulLiving® approach had significant potential for the Australian residential building sector from designers and builders to home owners.“Australia has eight million homes that account for roughly 12 per cent of our energy use and 10 percent of our greenhouse gas emissions. People are looking for a more efficient home and clearly the way we build in Australia needs to change,” Marsdon said.
“The prototype home demonstrates how uncomplicated it can be to build an aesthetically pleasing home that meets and exceeds thermal performance requirements, using technology that enables people to save on future energy bills.”
Benefits for the developer include a significant reduction in building materials, meaning fewer transport journeys and a reduced carbon footprint during construction.
There is no compromise on quality with the InsulWall® product. The thermal technology used ensures the house stays warm in winter and cool in summer. The system is also resistant to vermin, rot and termites.
“The InsulLiving® home can be tailored to fit with the life journey of community members, starting simply when finances are tight and growing with the family through the easy addition of new modules,” Marden said.
Marsdon said that the modular nature of the product also allowed for deconstruction and recycling of the walls and roof.
“The InsulLiving® home is a beautiful home, costing far less to build, in much less time and with ongoing savings to the home owner and residents. Put simply - it is quicker, leaner, smarter, greener. Everybody wins.”
Bondor has been developing the InsulWall® solution for the past five years with Bluescope Steel and Dulux Acratex. This year, Bondor was awarded a $50,000 Queensland Government Proof of Concept Fund for the project.
About InsulLiving®:
The InsulLiving® project was conceived by Bondor some years ago as the next step towards zero energy housing. With the combination of InsulWall® walling and SolarSpan® roofing, the InsulLiving® system offers a complete thermal envelope exceeding the current thermal efficiency requirements of the Building Code of Australia, for a wide range of climate zones.
The InsulLiving® system is fully engineered and offers significant advantages through the whole residential building supply chain; designers, builders and home owners.
This InsulLiving® home features:
- InsulWall® structural insulated wall system.
- SolarSpan® all in one insulated roof and ceiling system.
- A building system that capitalises on the buildability and speed of construction afforded by insulated panel.
- Superior insulation performance that is in synch with the modern home owners need for efficient use of energy resulting in smaller energy bills.
- A simple building system that reduces the need for multiple trades when skilled workers are in short supply.
InsulLiving® represents a revolutionary change to the way houses are built in Australia demonstrating that an energy efficient, environmentally friendly home can be built with the look of a typical modern Australian home.
SolarSpan® by Bondor® is a combination of roofing, insulation and ceiling in one durable, functional and attractive panel.
It’s just the answer for creating an outdoor living area that’s insulated against Summer sun and cosy in Winter.
A unique construction method ensures a combination of insulation and strength. An insulating polystyrene core is laminated between two sheets of COLORBOND® steel. This triple lamination allows SolarSpan® to span greater distances without traditional understructure. Clever design even incorporates a channel for running cables for lighting.
Being insulated, SolarSpan® lets you enjoy a shaded ambient air temperature in Summer. In Winter months SolarSpan® not only makes the area warmer, but quieter too, because it helps reduce the noise from rain and hail.
A choice of six exterior colours allows co-ordination with the colour of your house or roof. The underside is finished in the attractive neutral-toned Surfmist® colour in either smooth or ‘Elegance’ finish.
Installers Australia-wide can help with design and construction of your project or work to your architect’s design or your own.
